the implementation

The Flaiano Bridge was created to unblock a chaotic junction in the town while giving a new identity to the context in which it is implemented.

The new Ennio Flaiano bridge, which with its sinuous forms has become the new land-mark of the city of Pescara, saw the participation of our company for the construction of the 130 tonnes of the main steel spar, the focal point of the architectural composition. The city of Pescara, marked by the motorway axis which lacerates its urban fabric just a few metres from the ground level, suffers from the problems associated with traffic and travel time for its infrastructure.

The new Flaiano bridge was created in response to the need to resolve these problems, unblocking a chaotic junction in the city and at the same time giving a new identity to the setting in which it is inserted, thanks to the shape of the bridge. It is precisely the “sail” shape of the new structure that characterises the project, which, with curves on several axes and a total height of 58m, requires the best craftsmen for its construction.

Despite the challenges that the project entailed, we completed the job with a millimetre precision tolerance of the component and met the strict deadlines of the customer.

The Ennio Flaiano bridge project was a success for us both in terms of the quality of the finished product and the spirit with which the work was approached. Not only is Metalsan able to accept the challenge, but it also saw the opportunity to unleash its passion for steel structures in an ambitious project.
