The implementation

The project was complex from the outset

The customer asked for not one, but two 40-metre-high steel structures, to be built 300 km away, with a reduced visual impact and with all the necessary technical precautions to ensure that they operate properly and last.

Being able to provide both the executive design and the physical implementation
of the construction, Metalsan met with the approval of the customer and all parties involved with its design proposal.

the approach

How we approached the project

The logistical problems were solved through a top-down approach: each selvedge is divided into 4 x 10m ashlars, each consisting of calendared and machine-welded sheets at our factory. The coil thus produced was transported to the construction site separately. A precise assembly sequence puts the components together, completing both chimneys with just a few crane manoeuvres.
The visual impact is softened by the use of the colour blue and a special heat-resistant paint chosen for functionality and aesthetics.
Thehorizontal action of the wind is neutralised by the use of stabilisers placed at altitude to counterbalance the thrusts of the Ligurian breezes.

Steel structures: Benefits and Solutions

Recent years have seen a growing interest in steel structures which consolidate their position in the construction world due to the advantages they offer in comparison to masonry systems: in fact the former, if well designed and calculated, prove to be remarkably economical. Thanks to the prefabrication and standardisation of the constituent elements, the cost of the works is reduced and the on-site work is simplified with a considerable time advantage.

Our company is able to support the designer in choosing the most suitable solution for their needs, and then follow the entire project cycle up to the installation of the components.
